Jump6™ Basics

The Jump6™ program features the Orbera intragastric balloon system from Allergan, the maker of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Orbera is an expandable intragastric (inside the stomach) balloon that is placed in the stomach without surgery, using a gastroscope. After the balloon has been placed in your stomach, it is filled with a very precise volume of blue-dyed sterile solution. The expanded balloon creates an early and prolonged feeling of fullness. This balloon placement is temporary – it remains in the stomach for 6 months, then it is removed with a scope and light sedation. Over the 6 months, it helps patients to lose about 2 pounds per week.

About Safety

Many global studies have demonstrated the safety of Orbera system. For instance, a panel that reviewed over 80,000 Orbera balloon placements saw no leakages or deflations. Another survey of 186 current and post-removal patients revealed that 87% were satisfied (or very satisfied) with the intragastric balloon and 85% would recommend it to others. In addition, physicians experienced with the Orbera system have created a global standard of care for Jump6™.

Candidates

People must meet several basic criteria in order to pursue Jump6™.

• They must be at least 18 years old.
• They must have a BMI of at least 27.
• They must be committed to following the guidelines of a serious, well-supervised medical program.
• They should not be pregnant, have certain medical conditions, or drug or alcohol addiction.

Jump6™ Treatments

To begin treatment with Jump6™, the Orbera balloon must be inserted into the stomach; this is done with an endoscope (small camera) through the mouth – which means no incisions are necessary. Only light anesthesia is used. The balloon is inserted in a deflated state, and then is inflated with sterile saline solution through a self-sealing valve. The entire procedure often takes as little as 10 minutes. People generally experience mild nausea and can return to work in about 3 days.

After 6 months, the balloon is removed. The removal procedure is very similar to the placement procedure. You will be under light sedation as the balloon is deflated and then removed through the mouth. Again, an endoscope will be used to ensure accuracy and safety.
